How to be a Black Belt in Recruiting: MLM Tips from Mike Dillard, Attraction Marketing Master
One of the biggest keys to success in your MLM or network marketing business is how effective you are as a recruiter. The more you practice, and the more people you talk to, the more you can become a black belt when recruiting.
Being a black belt in recruiting means you are attracting the right people to your business, you are laser focused on the type of person you want to bring into your business and you are highly skilled at prospecting, interviewing and closing sales.
The 6- and 7-figure earners in network marketing did not get to their level of success overnight, and I’m willing to bet that each one of them had issues and challenges to overcome to get where they are now. The expert prospectors were not always experts. They fell down and scraped their knees along the way.
It will take lots of practice, and talking with hundreds of people (thousands if you want to play big). The more people you talk to, the better you will get at it.
It’s much easier to “attract” people TO you, rather than you chasing after people to get into your business. If you want to shortcut the process to becoming a black belt in recruiting, then take advice from leaders who’ve gone before you and have had the success you are looking for, like Mike Dillard. Mike Dillard, who is fondly known as the “Father of Attraction Marketing” has several excellent courses on improving your ability to attract people to you.
An excellent course that Mike Dillard created is called Black Belt Recruiting, and I highly recommend it. This course caused a complete shift in the way I was approaching my prospects. Before getting the course, I had zero success in recruiting. I was not doing attraction marketing; it was more like repellant marketing! I did just what my upline told me to do: I talked to everyone I knew. I was very knowledgeable about my product line. I did 130 presentations and only 3 people signed up…one of them was my sister and I paid for her Distributor kit. How pathetic is that?!
But I was not willing to give up. I was determined to “figure this thing out.” So I turned to the Black Belt Recruiting course and it made a huge difference in how I looked at network marketing.
Highlights from the Black Belt Recruiting course:
1- Like attracts like. People will see you as you see yourself. If you are sponsoring poor quality people, people who are needy and broke, then unfortunately that is how you see yourself. On the other hand, if you see yourself as successful person who is well spoken, whose time is valuable, (even if you are not there yet), then you will attract the successful people to you, and you will be on your way to the top. BE the kind of person you wish to attract.
2- Belief– How far along you are with the business to date is a lot less important than people realize. If it is something you believe in then people will be attracted to it.
Put it out there that you know where you are going and you believe in what you are doing. It is an attractor factor and sets you apart. You want to get good at attraction marketing.
Belief should be centered around what you have in the way of an opportunity and the potential impact it can have for the people you are speaking with and the people you are introducing it to and the impact it can have on their life. Heads will turn. It causes people to focus in.
Belief is huge, so it is critical to maintain that when talking to prospects.
It underlies everything we do.
3- Prospecting and Closing skills– your skills will be developed the more you practice. I’ve written
many blogposts about these topics, so take a look around my site for them. Mike Dillard goes over many questions to ask when interviewing people, and also many of the top objections people get and how to overcome them in a powerful way.
4- Posture– how you carry yourself when you are in front of or on the phone with prospects. It is a powerful thing to Master and it had better be strong, or you won’t close many sales. You can improve your posture simply by asking the right questions. People want to join leaders who are strong, confident and know where they are going.

5- Mindset– you’ve got to come from a place that you are not asking your friends, family and prospects to “do you a favor” by listening to or watching your presentation. No. Come from the perspective that you are doing them a favor, that you have something that can dramatically change their lives in a positive way.
6- Produce-Work the numbers to get better at what you do. Most networkers talk to fewer than 3 people per day, and it’s no wonder they do not get results. You want to start filling your pipeline by talking to at least 10 people per day. It seems to go slowly in the beginning, but as you start to fill your pipeline with more and more people, you will gain momentum and you will see more distributors coming out the other end.
Make the 1000% commitment in your brain. That manifests itself externally and will double because it will attract people to you; people will see your commitment level. People are attracted to people who are committed to their cause.
