The Time Objection: Before Someone Sees Your Home Business Presentation
One of the most common objections in network marketing is hearing people say they don’t have enough time for a home based business. It can come up at 2 different times, either before or after you introduce them to your business. This article will give you an idea of what to say before they see your presentation. The next article will address how to handle the time objection if it comes up AFTER they look at your business.
For example, you might initially say to them, “Do you keep your options open for making money outside of what you are currently doing?” and they answer back with the time objection: “I don’t have the time to do anything else.”
You can respond with:
“Really?” then pause…. Let there be silence for a few seconds, then say, “Wow! How does THAT feel?” And then keep quiet, and let that question marinate in their brain for a little bit.
Here are a Couple Time Objection Responses to say after that:
1. “Would it be worth it to you to take a look at a business that could ultimately give you the time freedom to do the things you really want to do in your life?”
2. “If you had all the free time you wanted, how would you spend it? What would you do?” (You are getting them to paint the picture of how they would want to live, and get at their “Why” for why they may just need a home business. It could be that they want to spend more time with their families, pick up a hobby, go on vacation, any number of reasons. Get them to dream a little bit).
After they answer, you can add, “If you don’t change anything about the way you live and work now, how will you be able to do those things you just told me?”
They probably won’t have an answer for that.
So you say to them, “Look, (name). I’m on your side. Take a look at what we are doing and how we are helping thousands of people get their time back, so they can do the things they want to do.
If you look at it and decide it’s not for you, then you will have wasted only (30 minutes (or 45, whatever amount of time it takes you to get them through the info) of your time. However, if you see what we see, then you may thank me for many years to come (or you may lose some sleep tonight thinking of the possibilities, etc).”
Come from a position of being an advocate for your prospect, not as a salesperson trying to get someone else in your business. Figure out if they really have a desire to create change in their lives.
Most people get through life in a job they don’t really like, but they think they are too busy to really do anything about it. You can show them that they CAN get their time freedom back, if they are willing to invest in themselves. Many successful leaders in the home business industry are people who were completely stressed out in a previous job with no time freedom and they got to a point where something had to change.
They wanted the freedom to be able to do the things they wanted to do (like be with their kids, travel more, do their hobbies, etc) but felt trapped in a job that wouldn’t allow them to do that. You may be just the link to show them how they can get their lives back.
It is not your job to convince anyone to join your business. But at least get the opportunity in front of them and have them evaluate it for themselves. If the timing is not right, that’s fine, but at least they know what they are saying no to. If you handle it professionally, you never know when they might come back to you and want to take a second look. You might just be the person who gets the wheels spinning in their head and get them dreaming again. How cool is that?!
