Is Money the Root of All Evil?
Is money the root of all evil? Money itself is not the root of all evil, but the Love of Money…. IS. Now I don’t know what your religious beliefs are, but as for myself, my ultimate authority and ultimate instruction manual is the Bible. In it, God says that the love of money is the root of all evil (source), and that we cannot serve 2 masters, both God and money.
We have to pick one.
So, either you serve (bow down to) either money or God, not both at the same time. Either you serve God and use money, or serve money and use God. If your focus is solely on money, money, money and achieving material things, you will find that over time, they will not be fulfilling for you..
As my wise mother-in-law (may she rest in peace) used to always say, “it’s okay to have ‘things’; just don’t let things have you! God wants us to enjoy prosperity on this earth but He wants to make sure that our primary focus is on Him, not material things.
True enjoyment in life will come out of serving God and serving other people. Find a way to be in service to others. Help the old lady cross the street, open a door for someone, find a worthy cause or charity that you want to support, etc. You will discover that the more you give, the more you will get back.
You can also find profitable ways of serving others, by creating income for yourself and your family and others. You could start a home business, get a job, ask for a raise, sell things around your house that you no longer need, open a boutique or franchise store, you could help out a friend or acquaintance grow their business, you could do internet marketing, affiliate marketing, eCommerce (online stores, like eBay, Amazon, Shopify or your own site). There are SO many possibilities!!
God wants us to be prosperous here on this earth. In fact, there are more verses in the Bible that speak about prosperity than about greed. Earning money and creating income is great and will allow you to do so many wonderful things in this life and to help you create the life of your dreams and to help others as well (feed the hungry, put an end to sex-trafficking, provide food and water to needy villages around the world, etc).
Money will expand who you already are. What this means is if you are a generous person by nature, then more money will allow you to become more generous and help more people. Money can also be used for evil as well. If you are already a big jerk, then more money will make you a bigger jerk. But if you are a big jerk, I can’t imagine you are very fond of my videos and articles, and therefore probably not reading this right now, lol. But I think you get my point.
That means I am speaking to you, the person who wants a better life and who wants to help more people achieve their goals and dreams. Whatever hang-ups you might have about money in your childhood, it is time to let them go. After all, you were only a child at the time you learned them!! You are now an adult and it is TIME to start changing your limiting thoughts and beliefs.
At the mere mention of those money-making opportunities above, you might have immediately put up blocks and resistance, thinking- “I can’t do that,” “I don’t know how,” “it’s too difficult,” “I don’t have any money to start anything”, “I’m too old,” “I’m too young” or whatever blocks you might have put up.
You may have been raised in an environment where your mom or dad or both parents had to have multiple jobs just to put food on the table. And if you were fed a mental diet of “scarcity” and there’s never enough money, then it’s TIME for you to get out of that cycle right now.
Remember, that you were only a child when you learned those things.
You don’t have to think that way anymore. You can train your brain to let go of those devastating thoughts.
Whether it is lack or scarcity, you can let go of that. You can create any kind of income you desire. You are only limited by your thoughts and beliefs. If you don’t like your current thoughts and beliefs, you can change them!!! Start with money. Money itself is not evil. Money can help you get the things you desire in life!
But consider your focus- I can promise you that if all you are doing is chasing money, you will lead an unfulfilling life. Case in point, look at all the celebrities who have achieved fame and fortune, who end up addicted to drugs and alcohol and in rehab. If you have a love of money and money becomes your god, you might enjoy the material wealth that results from that; you may enjoy those material possessions for a time, but you will not get ultimate satisfaction from them in life.
However, if you change your focus to serving God and serving other people, you will lead a much more fulfilling life. And you CAN create a great income by finding a way to serve others. You can serve people in both profitable (see above) and non-profitable ways and we are called to do both! Non-profitable ways meaning things like helping out a neighbor, opening a door for someone, donating to charity, listening to a friend who’s going through a tough time, etc).
You can create whatever life you desire and it starts in your mind, with your thoughts and beliefs. I will have more blogposts coming up about how to change your mindset to create success and achieve the goals you desire.
