Can the average person actually walk on fire? Absolutely! How do you do it? Read on.
Even if you don’ t plan on walking across a bed of hot coals, there are lessons you can learn from others’ experiences of doing it.
Recently, I went to a Tony Robbins seminar in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and it was an amazing event. If you can ever get to one I highly recommend it. In case you don’t know who Tony Robbins is, he is one of the top 50 Success Coaches in the world. He has worked with presidents, sports teams, world leaders, elite athletes, multi-millionaire business owners, CEOs and the list goes on.
Anyway, there was a 4 day seminar and on Day 1 he had almost 4,000 of us walking across a bed of hot coals. How did he do that? At the beginning of the day, I bet only a small percentage of people would have had the confidence to walk across the hot coals, but by the end of the day, more than 90% of us did it. What changed during the day?
Our beliefs in ourselves and our abilities. We also had a change in our state of mind. We learned how to change our focus and get into a state of mind where we had total belief in ourselves and our abilities.
The same is true for you in your business and personal life. When you are in a “peak state” or at the top of your game, you can do just about anything you want to do. You are capable of so much more than what you think you are.
A change in physiology and focus can make all the difference in your performance.
If you can get yourself to a place mentally where you have confidence, belief and a KNOWING that you can achieve something, then your brain will find a way for you to meet that goal.
Your “physiology” determines how you love and how you feel. Let’s look at a couple different states. When you are depressed, think about how you feel and what that looks like: shoulders slouched, head down, shallow breathing, slow speech, slow movements. Good decisions are NOT made in a depressed state.
On the other hand, think of how you look and feel when you are at the top of your game: shoulders back, head up, eyes up, animated speech, deeper breathing. In this state you speak with more confidence, you have higher self esteem, you make better decisions, and your belief in what you can do is much, much higher as well.
To make smart decisions for your business, you will want to get yourself into a peak state, and to do that a few things have to happen.
1. a change in physiology- when you have a resourceful physiology you will have power
2. The Power of Focus- really think about where your attention is focused. Focus on what is possible.
3. The Power of language and meaning. The pattern of language you use determines meaning. When you attach words to your experience, they become your experience.
Think about what you want to achieve in your business. Do you want to be a leader? If so, CLAIM it for yourself. What type of leader do you want to be? What do you want to achieve in your life? Be specific. The more specific you are, the more likely you will get what you want out of life.
Tony Robbins asked us these questions and they are worth considering: what do you want out of your life financially? What kind of lifestyle and identity are you committed to creating? What is the primary question you will ask yourself each day? What are the beliefs that will empower you to create these results?
Think also about what thoughts have limited you in the past. Then think about what specific actions you can take to close the gap between where you’ve been and where you’re committed to now.
When you look ahead at where you can go and you have the belief that you can get there, you will get yourself into a peak state that will help make things happen.
You also might want to repeat an incantation over and over every day to help you get into that state. Here is one that Tony Robbins came up with:
Now I am the Voice
I will Lead, not follow
I will Believe, not doubt
I will Create, not destroy
I am a Force for Good
I am a Leader
Defy the Odds
Set a new standard
Step Up! Step Up!
When you say it, say it LOUD, and with meaning, pump your fists in the air. It works, really! Say it a couple times a day or come up with your own. You will get your body into a higher, more positive state.
When you get into that peak state, your body actually forms a protective layer around it. It is nothing you can see, but it is something that allows you to walk across a bed of 1500-2000 F hot coals. You don’t have to walk across a bed of hot coals to make positive changes in your life. But it does show you, that if you can do that, you can do just about anything you set your mind to.
