Prospecting – Is It Just About The Numbers?

Focus on results not activityIf you are prospecting enough people, you will eventually enroll them into your network marketing business, or so “they” say.   Maybe there’s something more to it than just “the numbers.”  Because as you go through the numbers, you will begin to learn what works and what doesn’t work in your prospecting.  You will eventually discover the keys to success in prospecting, and realize it’s not merely the numbers that make you successful in network marketing, but what you learn in the process, and that you are refining your skills as you go along.  However, if you can change one little thing about what you are focusing on, it can make a HUGE difference in your results and the size of your team.

First off, here are a few questions to think about.

When you sit down to make your daily calls, what is your end in mind for that day? Is it to make a certain number of dials, because you’ve heard that that’s what you need to do?

Do you find yourself just going thru the motions of making the calls? Making the dials. Or is your intent to actually sign people up today?  To get people started in your business…..today?

What is your energy level like during your calls? If you are just making the dials to make dials, then you probably won’t be experiencing the success you desire.

But if you can change that, and have the mindset of “I am enrolling at least one person into my business today, no matter what,” you will have a stronger posture, conviction and a sense of urgency when you make your calls.

The thing is, your prospect can “sense” what you are thinking about.  What you focus on in your mind is what will come to you.  Here are a couple of examples:

“Activity” – You want to make 20 dials today.  So you do your prospecting, you make your 20 dials, you are done for the day.  Even though you didn’t sign anybody up, well hey, at least you made the calls.   You may feel a sense of accomplishment because you at least made some phone calls.  You will have made dials.

Let’s say you decide to focus on “Results“- Your goal is to enroll 1 person today in your network marketing business.  You make your dials with the focus on getting results, so as you make your dials, your posture is different. You have a stronger conviction. You have purpose and intent and more of a sense of urgency.

Can you see the difference in the level of focus?

Focus on Activity   Focus on Results
Reactive Proactive
Lower Energy Level Higher Energy Level
More Laid Back More Leaning Forward
Going Through the Motions   More purposeful
 Weaker Posture Stronger Posture
No Urgency Urgency
Focus on Activity of Calls    Focus on Growing Team

What you are after in the end, is results. Growing your network marketing team.  If your focus is on truly helping someone get started in your business, today (or this week or whatever your weekly or daily goal is), and you have a sense of urgency about you, then the outcome of enrolling someone into your business today or this week is much more likely to happen.

Going through the numbers will eventually help you, but making a tiny shift in your expectations for your prospecting can lead to huge results for you.  Focus on your prospect. Have purpose in your prospecting.

Happy Prospecting!!

To your success,

Sarah Bailey
